Broadband Wireless Community Network
Demand for mobile Internet connectivity is growing exponentially. The Anchorage market will expect to interact in, publish, and consume HD video services within two years. A well designed broadband wireless community network is required to provide seamless and transparent integration with private networks to ensure a high quality of mobile service.
The project team is absolutely committed to working closely with Google to deploy a pervasive broadband wireless network throughout Anchorage as our highest priority. A federated service model allows wireless network users to securely access resources at home, at the office, or in the cloud in a consistent manner.
Google fiber to the home, and the resulting gigabit internet service, creates a platform that enables experimentation with a number of approaches that build upon existing wireless mesh technologies.
Google’s decision to operate an open network and achieve provision service symmetrically support our model of a community network that enables true community and Internet presence anytime and anywhere.
Anchorage desires to leverage Google’s relationship with Meraki to quickly and efficiently deploy this essential community infrastructure.
Finally, broadband wireless networks complement fiber deployment as a transition strategy (to achieve ubiquity quickly in areas requiring a longer construction cycle) and as a delivery strategy for locations where fiber deployment is not feasible.
